At Knechtel 3D Prints, we believe in creating things that spark joy without leaving a mess behind. We're a small, family-run shop doing our best to keep things thoughtful, low-impact, and just a little bit better every time we print.
Here’s what that looks like in real life.
Small-Batch by Design
We don’t mass-produce mountains of stuff hoping someone buys it. Everything is printed to order or in short runs based on real interest. That means less waste, smarter inventory, and no landfill-bound overstock.
Plant-Based Filament
We use high-quality PLA, a biodegradable plastic made from renewable resources like corn. It’s one of the most eco-conscious materials available for 3D printing, with a lower carbon footprint than traditional plastics.
We also source our filament locally and buy it in bulk, which helps reduce shipping emissions and packaging waste.
Reuse, Repack, Repeat
If your package shows up in a gently reused box or with recycled padding, know that it’s intentional. We reuse shipping supplies whenever possible to keep materials in use and out of the bin. We also choose compostable and recyclable packaging whenever it makes sense.
Smarter Failures
Not every print goes perfectly. But we don't toss failed prints in the trash. Instead, we sort and repurpose them, or recycle them into new filament for future prints. Nothing goes to waste if we can help it.
Lower Energy Printing
We run our printers in batches to cut down on energy spikes and unnecessary downtime. We plan out our print plates for maximum efficiency, and we avoid printing items unless they’re headed to someone who really wants them.
Lightweight Shipping
Our packaging is simple, secure, and as lightweight as possible to help reduce shipping emissions. Local pickup and delivery are available when we can offer them, especially at markets or events.
Progress Over Perfection
We're not a zero-waste operation and we won't pretend to be. But we are honest, conscious of our footprint, and always working to do better. We welcome ideas, questions, or feedback from fellow eco-minded folks.
TL;DR
• We use locally sourced, plant-based PLA
• We reuse and recycle shipping materials
• We repurpose failed prints or recycle them into filament
• We batch-print for better energy use
• We keep things small, thoughtful, and proudly not mass-produced
